About the results
The survey was posted on Dress Up Games on November 8. - 10. 2007. Over one thousand (mostly) girls replied, ages from 6 to 18, most of the replies were from girls ages 11-14.
Most of the participants live in the US and UK, a fair number in Canada, Australia and Europe but overall, some answers from most parts of the world.
The results are given in the right order with the most popular gifts listed first and special frequent mentions in brackets.
Electronics!
The overall winner is an iPod (video, nano) but other MP3 players were also mentioned. It might be worth mentioning that some kids use the word "iPod" as a generic term, so other types of MP3 players might be just as good.
Other wanted devices are laptops (in favorite colors), cell phones (with cameras, music, Juke, Sidekick), Wii and Nintendo DS video game consoles, digital cameras, Play Station 2, Play Station Portable, iPhone and a TV.
"Cell phone. ;_; Why do I seem to be the only one who doesn't have one?"
Kim, 15, Canada.
Video games!
Oh yes, everybody wants plenty of video games this Christmas!
There are so many different types of games available, the most often mentioned are games for Nintendo DS, Wii and PlayStation (all versions).
As for titles, this is definitely the year of Sims games. Most of the Sims series got a mention but the most wanted are My Sims (available for Nintendo DS and Wii) and Sims 2: Castaway (available for most consoles).
Other popular titles are DreamLife Superstar (TV plug-in), Thrillville, Designer's World (TV plug-in), Animal Crossing and digital pet games (Petz, Catz, Dogz).
"I want The Sims 2: Castaway for PS2, a camcorder, a sweater vest, a pair of fingerless gloves, and Clue.
AC, 14, Kentucky.
Clothes and shoes!
Clothes, clothes, clothes for Christmas! Or even better, a gift card (voucher) to a favorite clothing or shoe store! Some mentioned stripy socks, some mentioned jeans, but most just named brand or store names like Abercrombie & Fitch, Ugg boots, Hollister, Claire's, American Eagle, Converse sneakers and Aéropostale.
Oh, and let's not forget purses and bags!
"Some CD's, clothes, sweets, money ^^ something little and nice."
Heidi, 15, Finland.
Toys!
The list of wanted toys is very long but many of the toys only got one or two votes. The winner in this category is Bratz! Bratz dolls, Bratz cars and, well, Bratz everything! Although not quite as popular, Barbie also has a lot of fans out there and the Barbie Cash register looks very tempting this year!
Not surprisingly, dolls are very popular, especially with the younger girls. Most mentioned are Baby Alive and American Girl.
Many girls want Heelys and roller blades while stuffed animals and teddy bears are as popular as ever.
All kinds of robot pets are much in demand, like FurReal and iDogs.
Board games are a fun alternative to video games, especially The Game of Life Twists & Turns.
Other wanted toys are Pixel Chix, Digi Makeovers, Sylvanians, Hello Kitty, Polly Pocket, Sailor Moon, fashion design kits, Lego, doll house and tamagotchi.
"I want a baby doll that cries, blinks, sleeps, eats, drinks and uses the bathroom. Then I want some books and a karaoke machine."
Deja, 11, Michigan.
Books, CDs and DVDs!
There are no clear winners as far as titles go and many of you mentioned that you would like gift cards to book and music stores. But still, a good bet for DVDs seem to be Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Ratatouille.
As for books, many mentioned different manga titles and the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer.
No clear winner in the CD category, but younger girls like Hannah Montana and older girls like Rihanna.
"A Coach handbag, giftcards to Hollister, Barnes & Noble, and Claire's, and a virtual fashion computer program."
Lauren, 13, New York.
Online toys and services
It's not a big surprise that Dress Up Games user like to play online! To use some web sites you have to buy a toy or pay a fee, and many of you would like just that for Christmas! Most popular are Webkinz which are real stuffed toys but you also get access to Webkins web site. Many Bratz fans want to join the Be-Bratz web site and for that you need a Be-Bratz doll with a USB key necklace. Many girls, especially the older ones, would be very grateful for an iTunes subscription, which I have to say is not surprising considering how popular iPods are!
"I want an Ipod Shuffle, a Webkinz Chihuahua and a Be-Bratz"
Geanie, 10, Canada.
Various smaller gifts!
some of the items mentioned are candy (chocolate), art supplies (manga, paint, art kits), magazine subscriptions, posters, room decorations (mirrors), PJs, hair accessories and everything you can find that has anything to do with High School Musical and Hannah Montana.
Also popular are video journals and password journals (probably electric).
"Books , Pens , Board Games , Hair Bobbles And Little Suprises :D"
Carey, 9, England
Various larger gifts and pets!
It doesn't hurt to dream! And if the dreams come true, the gifts will be a puppy, guitar, horse or pony, kitten, electric scooter, bike or an electric guitar!
"Electric guitar. :]"
Michelle, 13, Texas.
Hair & body - jewelry!
Make-up is very popular but I'm not sure which type although there were some mentions of lip gloss. Jewelry got a lot of mentions but rarely which type. Many of you want hair straightners (ghd) and perfume (Vera Wang Princess), as well as bath stuff and hair streakers.
"Straightners, make up, cds, dvds, clothes, ipod, laptop"
Robyn, 14, England.
Events, happenings and the true meaning of Christmas!
Lots of girls expressed wishes that could be summed up as wanting to celebrate Christmas with friends and family and that everybody have a jolly, old time! Some of the older girls would be ever so happy if someone special took notice of them while others are more practical and want tickets to concerts and shows (Hannah Montana and trips to Build-a-Bear.
Perhaps difficult to wrap up and put under a tree, quite a few girls would like a change to re-design their bedrooms and have it painted a different color!
"A boyfriend and a cell phone"
Lisa, 14, New York.
