About Dress-up Games

Why was [a web site] removed?
The most common reason is that the website has closed down. When I notice that a popular website has gone offline I will remove the link but leave "breadcrumbs", an explanation that the website is no longer online. Sometimes webmaster ask me to remove their sites because of the traffic that goes through Dress Up Games. Increasingly, as the number of available dress-up games grows, I remove sites that are outdated technically or not as fun as they once were compared to new and more exciting games. Sometimes I remove sites that do no longer adhere to the rules.

Why are some links labeled and what do they mean?
Best games = the very best of the best!
Required registration = websites that require registration.
Recommended = recommended websites.
Internet Explorer = only works in Internet Explorer.
Java Applet - a plug-in to view interactive content, can be downloaded from Sun Microsystems. I'm slowly weeding out games using java applets, they tend to be old, slow and outdated.
PG - Parental guidance suggested. Some material may not be suitable for younger children.
PG-13 - Parents strongly cautioned. Material for teenagers and may be inappropriate for children under 13.

Why didn't you post the link I sent to you?
Most likely it is either already listed somewhere on my site (try the search!), I didn't like it enough to link to it or I didn't think that it fit the concept of Dress Up Games. Other reason might be that you forgot to send me the URL, I didn't find it because your description was so vague (hey, check out the cool game on Disney!) or the web site does not adhere to the rules and guidelines for accepting links to Dress Up Games.

Add more games and update more often!
I usually update every weekday, at least a few times a week. Also, people send me links to all sort of sites with no dress-up games. So I may have been busy working on my site, checking out links, including repeated submissions of the same games, and looking for games with no results and no actual updates. I'm not slacking, honest!

I have a great idea for a game - can you make it?
I love hearing new ideas so by all means keep them coming! I can't promise anything but if I like your idea I'll do my best to make it happen.

Please remove [a link] from your site. I find it offensive.
I have no interest in offending anyone and try my best not to do so! However, opinions vary and web contents change so I will certainly take a second look and remove the link or label it appropriately (about labels).

Can I buy advertising space on dressupgames.com or puterdolls.com?
Yes, advertising space is available through Google AdWords, please read about advertising on Dress Up Games.

Can I buy advertising space on dressupgames.com or puterdolls.com directly from you?
No, at this time advertising space is only available through Google AdWords.

Do you accept games that I host but are also hosted by other websites?
I always try to link to the original location of the game. If the same game is published on two or more places on the web and authorship is multiple or unclear, the link will go to site with the biggest play area and fewest ads.

Do I have to link back to dressupgames.com to be listed?
No, it is not required. However, linking back is a nice gesture which will put me in a better mood while reviewing your game which might increase you chance of being listed

Do you have rules of admission?
Yes, general rules are available here.

Why was my web site removed
Either because it was offline during a routine dead-link check or because I've changed my mind about linking to it. With more dress-up games produced every day what happens is that some of the older games become outdated and in comparison with the new ones are just not as fun and exciting as they once were. Also, with new categories added and deleted your game might longer fit anywhere. If you think I've removed your listing by mistake (and it does happen), please contact me.

Can I have my site removed from Dress-up games (small bandwidth and/or personal content)?
Absolutely, I will remove your site at once, no questions asked, no explaining necessary.

Can you link to my simulation or virtual pet website?
Yes, if it has a dress-up feature please submit your website to be reviewed. To be listed a new user will have to be able to sign up and choose a basic look in the first play session, it should not take longer then a few minutes. If your website requires the user to spend a long time to earn enough to buy clothes for her avatar, then dressing up is clearly not the main focus of the site and therefore your site is not suited to be listed on Dress Up Games.

Can you link to my roleplaying forum with avatars?
No. We make a clear distinction between decorative avatars (often on Internet forums) and social websites with playable avatars. To be listed on Dress Up Games the avatar on your site has to be able to do stuff!

How often and how many games should I submit to dressupgames.com?
You can of course submit as often as you like but what I recommend is submitting less often and submit only your best games.

I have news about my simulation (virtual world, virtual pet) site that I'd like you to announce to your readers.
As of January 2009 it is no longer possible to update and move links to simulation sites and announce changes and new services. Once it is listed, the link moves down the page until it reaches the bottom when it will move to the top again. And so on. Most such sites are fairly complex and you really need to be a regular player to appreciate and understand new changes. In January 2009 I have links to about 70 simulation sites (not counting fashion communities) and unfortunately I do not have time to visit and use them all regularly.

About Dress-up Games
Dress Up Games is a producer and a directory of dress-up games, makeover games, fashion games and other web sites where you can dress-up, build or make persons or animals and decorate rooms and houses. The site was born as The Dress Up Games Page in March 15th 1998, using a free GeoCities account. Moved to the current domain in 2000 and has been regularly updated ever since.

Dress Up Games is a very selective and exclusive directory. Even if your games is linked on one our pages there is no guaranty that it will stay there forever. Pages are checked regularly and games are reviewed over and over again to make sure they still work properly and are still relevant and interesting.

In July 2006 Dress Up Games had a big makeover which included new colors, new graphics, and was converted to a table less XHTML and CSS layout. I am very happy with the results!
